Project Description
The youngsters at Cataraqui Woods returned from summer vacation to find their yard looking a lot different. Despite the extremely tight quarters which prevented multitasking, Morven was able to deliver, completing the project by the beginning of the 2022 school year.
The team removed the asphalt from the play areas while maintaining the playground structure and existing artificial turf area. Two new play and sand areas were constructed using engineered wood fiber with hand-crafted log edging used to frame the sand space. An outdoor learning area with seating was also created. To improve the drainage of the new play area, the storm sewer and subsurface drainage was updated.
New concrete curbs now surround the play areas and fresh asphalt was installed with hopscotch and maze play surfaces painted on the surface. The area was refreshed with shrubs and shade trees and a new sliding access gate was installed for maintenance vehicles.
One of the most unique features of this project was the chalkboard that was created with rough-cut hemlock lumber.
