Project Description

Morven Construction was the designer and builder for Queen’s University Nixon Playing Field, creating field, lighting and storm water design, and garnering all City approval. The field is located at the heart of main campus adjacent to Kingston General Hospital. Special considerations were required as the field was constructed over an underground garage, necessitating limited weight restriction, as well as continued functionality of the space below for parking and pedestrians throughout the course of the project. Two steel and glass player enclosures were also designed and built as part of this project. The project was awarded to Morven in mid-April and the field was ready for Queen’s Rugby teams in mid-August of the same year. Nixon Playing Field is considered one of the best artificial Varsity Rugby fields in Canada.
