Project Timeline:
3 Months
Project Description
Morven Construction completed a 3-month demolition project at 100 Innovation Drive, Kingston, where the former Startek Call Centre building was deconstructed as part of the New Empire Square Development. The building, which once housed over 2,100 employees, was carefully demolished after utility disconnections were completed.
Morven subcontracted a specialized demolition team for the interior work, and then proceeded with the careful deconstruction of the 46,000 square-foot, four-story building using excavators with hydraulic breakers and shears. Interior furniture, doors, auxiliary power equipment, and cafeteria items were salvaged and repurposed.
The building’s reinforcing steel and concrete were sorted, with the steel being recycled, and the concrete crushed into a 75mm granular product. This material was repurposed for backfilling commercial and residential buildings. The project was completed efficiently, with a focus on recycling and sustainability throughout the demolition process.
